The Garden Where Toys Come Alive. The moon rose high above the rooftops. Silver light spilled through the bedroom window. Everything was quiet and still. Oscar was fast asleep. His teddy bear sat on the pillow beside him. His toy car rested on the bedside table. His wooden blocks lay stacked in the corner. His little dinosaur stood guard by the lamp. For a moment, nothing moved. Then... the teddy bear blinked. He stretched his soft, brown arms and gave a big yawn. He looked around at the other toys and whispered very quietly. "He is asleep. It is time." The toy car's wheels began to turn, ever so slowly. The wooden blocks shuffled and clinked together. The dinosaur lifted one foot, then the other. One by one, the toys crept across the carpet towards the window. Outside, the garden was glowing. Moonlight made the grass shimmer like water. The flowers had opened their petals to drink in the cool night air. It was magical. The teddy pushed open the window. A gentle breeze floated in, smelling of roses and fresh earth. "After you," said the teddy to the toy car. The car rolled down onto the windowsill and dropped softly into the flowerbed below. The blocks tumbled after it, landing with tiny thumps. The dinosaur jumped down with a little roar. The teddy climbed down last, holding onto the ivy. They were in the moonlit garden. "Oh, it feels wonderful to stretch," said the teddy. He wiggled his arms and legs. The toy car zoomed in a circle around a daisy. "I love the grass beneath my wheels," it said happily. The wooden blocks arranged themselves in a neat row and sighed with contentment. "We do enjoy the fresh air," they said together. The dinosaur stomped between the flower pots, feeling very important. The teddy sat down on a smooth, flat stone. "Let us share our favourite memories," said the teddy. "Who would like to go first?" The toy car rolled forward eagerly. "Today was WONDERFUL," said the car. "Oscar raced me across the whole living room. Around the table legs, under the chairs, all the way to the kitchen door. He made engine sounds the entire time. Vroom, vroom, vroom." The car spun its wheels with joy. "He held me so carefully," said the car. "He never crashed me into anything. He is such a thoughtful boy." The toys all nodded. The wooden blocks shuffled forward next. "This morning, Oscar built a tower," said the first block. "A VERY tall tower," said the second block. "The tallest tower he has ever made," said the third block. "And when it fell down, he did not get cross," said all the blocks together. "He just laughed and started again. He has such a kind heart." The dinosaur stepped into the moonlight. "Oscar took me to the park," said the dinosaur proudly. "He showed me to his friend. He said I was his favourite dinosaur. He said I was BRAVE and STRONG." The dinosaur puffed out its little chest. "He makes me feel important," said the dinosaur quietly. Finally, the teddy bear spoke. "Every night, Oscar holds me close," said the teddy. "He tells me about his day. He whispers secrets in my ear. And when he falls asleep, I can feel his heart beating softly." The teddy hugged his own arms. "He loves us," said the teddy. "He truly does. And that makes us the luckiest toys in the whole world." The moonlight seemed to glow even brighter. A gentle wind rustled the leaves above them. The flowers swayed as if they were listening too. The toys sat together in happy silence. After a while, the teddy looked up at the sky. The moon was starting to sink. The darkness was becoming softer at the edges. "Dawn is coming," said the teddy. "We must go back." The toys began their journey across the garden. The car rolled through the dewy grass. The blocks hopped one by one. The dinosaur marched with quiet steps. They climbed back through the window. Everything was still. Oscar had not moved. His breathing was slow and peaceful. One by one, the toys returned to their places. The car settled on the bedside table. The blocks stacked themselves neatly in the corner. The dinosaur stood guard by the lamp. The teddy climbed onto the pillow. He snuggled close to Oscar and closed his button eyes. "Goodnight," whispered the teddy. "We will be here when you wake." The first light of morning crept across the floor. Oscar stirred. He yawned and stretched. He opened his eyes and smiled. His teddy was right there beside him, just where he had left it. Oscar gave the teddy a cuddle. "Good morning," said Oscar. The teddy, of course, said nothing at all. But if Oscar had looked very closely, he might have seen the tiniest smile on the teddy's soft, brown face. The end.
